4 Tips to Pick the Right Engineering College For You

The college you choose to study in can have major ramifications later in life. A bad selection can wreck your career and it is vital to know a few things before you make the final decision. Today education has become a business and there are many private engineering colleges in Dehradun offering a wide range of courses. However, choosing the right college and the right course can be a nightmare. Here are a few things to keep in mind when you can’t decide what course or engineering college to select.

1. Know everything about the college

It is necessary to do as much research as you can on a college you intend to join. This will not only help you make a better decision but also give you confidence when entering early on. Here are a few things you must know about the college:

Reputation: The current reputation of a college will reflect on its standing in the job market. Having a highly reputed college on your CV will dramatically increase your chances of getting hired.

Location: If you are willing to stay at a hostel or PG near the college, its location should not matter much. However, if you are going to travel every day from home, it’s important not to join a college too far away as the daily commute will leave you too tired to concentrate on studies.

Placement: Ask around to know how good the placement cell is at the college and how many students typically get hired each year. Make sure the type of brands that hire from the college are reputable and established.

Infrastructure: Today it is not good enough for a college to provide decent education and their infrastructure (including a library, canteen, classrooms, etc.) also matters a lot.

Faculty: Contact current students of a college to get feedback on how good the faculty is and especially the faculty in the department you wish to join.

2. Affiliation

• Almost every employer would ask for a UGC approved degree so it is important to check if the college has a proper affiliation with a sanctioned university.

3. Consider your strengths

• Most engineering colleges offer a wide range of courses such as electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, computer engineering, etc. It is very important to choose a department that not only interests you but one you’re also good at. You must also do research into the kind of demand that is there in the market before selecting a department.

4. Finance

• If you are expecting your guardians to pay for all college fees and not studying on a scholarship and, then discuss with them beforehand all course fees, development fees, etc. and also the pay structure stipulated by the college.

Selecting the right college can be a complex multi-layered choice with various decisions involved. Some students might also have to think about family expectations and financial constraints. There are many engineering colleges in Dehradun district that satisfy all conditions of a proper engineering college and it is up to the student to find the right college for the right career.
